Hearts of Oak Masters Annual football camp slated for July 19 – August 20

The Annual Hearts of Oak Masters’ Teach them Young football summer camp will be staged this year from Monday July 19 to Friday August 20 at the Scott Church ground Princess Elizabeth road New Amsterdam.

This is the 11th year of the programme which will be held five days weekly from Monday-Friday from 09:00hrs -13:00 hrs.

During the camp the youths will be taught the finer points of the game which includes both theory and practical.

The practical sessions will entail showing the youngsters the various ways in receiving, passing, shooting, dribbling, Goalkeeping and throwing the football among other points. The youths are also expected to be schooled in discipline, etiquette, good table manners and general education with Physical fitness also expected to be an integral part of the sessions.

According to coordinator Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey the main aim of the programme is to have the youths better able to appreciate the rules and regulations of the game, improve their knowledge and skills and understand  general sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others.

According to Humphrey at the end of the camp the youths will be presented with certificates while the more outstanding players will be selected to participate in a tour to either Georgetown or the Corentyne where they will participate in a number of goodwill games.

He is expecting a good response as school is closed for the holidays and the programme has now become a part of the youths annual out of school package.

Along with Humphrey the other coaches expected to take the youngsters through their paces are former nationals Adrian Forde and Phillip Carrington, Sherwin Forde, Nigel Felix, Kenrick Bowry, Brian Ralph and Randy Sears.
